Catedral de San Juan Bautista (Cathedral of St. John the Baptist), one of the two oldest churches in the Western Hemisphere, completed in 1540. We were able to attend an afternoon Mass here.
This chapel has left the original structure of the cathedral unaltered.
Virgen de la Providencia (Our Lady of Providence), patroness of Puerto Rico
Catedral de San Juan Bautista
North transept
Stained glass window features a symbol of the Trinity with Son and Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father (counter to now-common "filioque" arrangement) I suspect that the symbol in the dome is meant to represent a cherubim.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help icon, the form is similar to the traditional Panagia Fovera Prostasia. This would suit the cathedral's dedication to Our Lady of Providence.
Much of the cathedral's Neoclassical exterior and interior dates from its 1917 restoration.
